She’s on the run from something ominous in her past and escapes to a new town and a new job as the physical therapist for the U.S. Hockey Team who is preparing for the Olympics.
He’s a veteran hockey player with a secret of his own that threatens his chances at making the final cut for the team.
When she discovers his secret, will she attempt to stand in the way of his childhood dreams? Or will he unwittingly become the new target when her past ultimately catches up with her?
As their attraction for one another grows, danger looms nearby. Jana and Danny must decide what they will risk for the ultimate game of love…
This is the exciting premise of Kerri Nelson's new romantic suspense novel, Cross Check My Heart (Eternal Press.).
Here's an excerpt for your enjoyment:
Danny knocked on the door and waited. He’d faced some of the toughest hockey defensive lines and goalies in the world and he’d never felt as nervous as he did at this moment. It seemed incredibly silly to think that a lithe little red head could hold any power over him. Particularly a woman that he’d never even met…but the fact remained that her report meant everything to him.
“C’mon in…” a voice sounded from the other side of the door and Danny pushed it open tentatively.
The door swung inward to reveal a cozy office with hardwood flooring and a desk against one wall. His eyes swept to the empty seat behind the desk.
“Over here!” the voice called out. Danny turned in the direction of the voice and found her stretched out on the floor wearing yoga pants and a bright red tank top. She was barefoot and that long, luscious red mane had been tamed back into a severe pony tail.
He did a double take at her as she leaned forward and pressed her cheek to the floor. Her legs were spread in an open V shape and she was bent forward completely down to the ground.
He was no expert at yoga moves but this seemed pretty advanced. He did daily stretches before work outs and training and he couldn’t get half that far down during a forward floor stretch.
This woman was beyond flexible. A flicker of an image teased at his brain. He could see himself testing out her flexibility in a more intimate setting. The thought of her sinewy fair skinned legs wrapped around him caused a sudden tightening in his pants.
He shifted his stance and tried to shake the naughty images from his mind.
Get a grip, Cipriani! This is serious business and no time to be making her into your fantasy girl.
As he chastised himself internally, she sat up and eyed him from the floor.
“Are you okay?” she asked raising one eyebrow at him.
This was the first time he’d really been able to look at her face and she was even more beautiful than he could have imagined.
