There is no need for gay and lesbian couples to spend excessively celebrating Valentine's Day. Netflix subscribers can stay in, enjoy a home-cooked romantic dinner and curl up with a good gay or lesbian themed romance from the Netflix watch instantly queue.
Five classic romantic gay or lesbian movies you can watch instantly on Netflix:
- Kissing Jessica Stein (2001): Starring Jennifer Westerfeldt and Heather Juergensen. Jessica (Jennifer Westfeldt) is a single, straight, successful New York journalist who, like most of her female friends, has had a history of dating (male) creeps. But when she answers an intriguing personal ad from Helen (Heather Juergensen), Jessica finds herself intensely drawn to her. As Jessica explores this new side of her sexuality, the two begin a friendship that ultimately leads to romance.
- Latter Days (2004): Starring Steve Sandvoss and Wesley A. Ramsey. This controversial film explores the consequences of a young Mormon missionary, Aaron (Steve Sandvoss), recognizing his homosexuality and falling in love with another man. Aaron's first sexual encounter with a gay "party boy" (Wesley A. Ramsey) leads to a passionate romance that gets Aaron excommunicated from his church and risks destroying both their lives. Charming and sexy, Latter Days offers a heady mix of romantic comedy and powerful drama.
- Adam & Steve (2005): Starring Craig Chester and Malcolm Gets. After getting together for a calamitous one-night stand in the 1980s, single homosexuals Adam (Craig Chester) and Steve (Malcolm Gets) don't see each other again until they cross paths 17 years later. In an unbelievable twist, it takes a year of dating for Adam and Steve to realize they've already met, which complicates their romance even further. Parker Posey, Chris Kattan and Sally Kirkland provide first-rate support in this snappy comedy.
- Loving Annabelle (2006): Starring Diane Gaidry and Erin Kelly. An esteemed young poetry teacher at a Catholic boarding school (Diane Gaidry) risks everything when she engages in a feverish affair with a female student (Erin Kelly) in this controversial story of forbidden love. Directed by Katherine Brooks and co-starring Ilene Graff, this passionate yet sensitive romance explores the complexity of an unconventional relationship in the face of rigid traditionalism.
- Puccini for Beginners (2006): Starring Elizabeth Reaser and Gretchen Mol. In this love-crazed comedy, commitment-phobic lesbian Allegra (Elizabeth Reaser) is recovering from a breakup with her girlfriend when she starts to fall for a member of the opposite sex -- and now she's questioning her sexuality and her sanity. Philip (Justin Kirk) is the tidy professor who's romancing the ambivalent Allegra while she pursues Grace (Gretchen Mol), a straight woman who's recently become single.
