Romantic finger food, julienne vegetable salad

There is something salacious about sitting down to a meal for two where you dip your morsels into a golden elixir.   Clams and lobster meat dripping with butter invoke a picture of decadence and drama.  This salad takes that picture on a fresh and equally romantic adventure.

In the middle of winter we do not always realize the bounty of vegetables available to us.  Hearty root vegetables are the mainstay of this recipe.  The concoction was inspired by the gorgeous offerings found at Enterprise Farm's Food Shed each and every Saturday.  What better way to enjoy a romantic meal than with the fruits of those who love the earth?

Fresh, flavorful and full of life multicolored beets, bright orange carrots and pearly white parsnips are well balanced with the lime and sea salt marinade.  Each slice glistens with life when stroked with fresh infused Green Onion and Chili Oil. Presenting your piece to the mouth of the one you love is sure to charge the air with soulful intimacy. A side of Barry White is not required.

“Marry, sir, 'tis an ill cook that cannt lick his own fingers. Therefore he that cannot lick his fingers goes not with me.”  William Shakespeare  ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Julienne Vegetable Salad

  • 2 large carrots, cut in match sticks
  • 1 large parsnip, cut in match sticks
  • 2 stalks of celery, cut in match sticks
  • 1 medium sized beet, julienned
  • 1 medium russet potato, julienned and then cooked in the microwave for 6 minutes (optional)
  •  the juice of 1 lime
  • 1 pinch of salt to your liking

This crudite is meant for fingers rather than a fork, so the size of the vegetables to meet your personal preference. Petite pieces have the best presentation. Toss the vegetables together with lime juice and salt. Allow to marinate for at least 1 hour. When you are ready to serve, prepare two settings with a small bowl of fresh spiced dipping oil.  Make a delicious meal of it with Orange Infused Barramundi.

    Hi Julie!

This article makes me long for our Farmers Markets to open! (they are closed until April in this area!) This article makes me think of the great spice blends from Terra Americana....they have some of the best spice blends to flavor oils. The Dill Salt blend mixed with sour cream would be a natural with these finger foods.

    Tweeting!

    Cheers!
