Romania Animal Rescue to sponsor vets attending training camp

The Romania Animal Rescue (RAR) organization based in California is sponsoring veterinarians who attend Romanian spay and neuter training camps in 2012. The five-day camp is a way for local veterinarians to improve their surgical and anesthetic skills. Open to both veterinarians and vet technicians, the camps will also coincide with some spay/neuter programs at animal shelters in Romania.

The Veterinary Surgeons camp is for veterinarians who want to improve their routine surgery skills. Subjects covered include:  Pre-operative assessment, Behavior and animal handling, Surgical techniques, Suture materials, use and patterns and Midline spay vs. flank spay.

There is also a Vet Nurse/Tech camp for those wanting to increase their surgical and anesthetic knowledge. Subjects for vet techs include: Pre-operative assessment, Preparation, Anesthetic monitoring, Use of injectable anesthesia, Drug dosages and calculation and Post-op care.

Camp instructors are two of Romania’s best animal doctors and brothers, Dr. Aurelian Stefan DVM and Dr. Petrisor Stefan DVM. Dr. Aurelian is RAR’s medical director and a national advocate of spay and neuter programs for Romania’s street dogs. Dr. Petrisor is a specialist in orthopedics, ultrasound and parasitology and with his brother, co-founded the World Animal Veterinary Emissaries (WAVE), an organization that promotes animal welfare and free neutering services and medical treatment for animals. Also on the teaching team is Ruth Osborne RVN, DipCABT. A fully licensed vet nurse and Companion Animal Behavior Counselor, Osborne is the leader of Romania Animal Rescue’s United Kingdom branch.

Cost to attend the camp is $1500 US. Romania Animal Rescue hopes to sponsor vets who take this training with some help from the public. Along with paying the course fee, RAR will also provide two spay packs per vet after he or she graduates from the course. Cost of these packs is $250 each. Each spay pack provides 17 spay and neuter instruments. To help sponsor a veterinarian at training camp, donate to their secure donation page and select Training Center Fund in the drop down menu. To purchase a spay pack, visit their Wishlist page and add spay pack to the shopping cart.

Three training camps will be held in 2012. The first one is April 2-6, the second June 4-8 and the third is September 3-7. Visit the Veterinary Training Camp website or email contact@veterinarytrainingcamp.com for more information.
