The romance of the railroad is still alive in Kansas. On Saturday, April 12, 2014, the Heartland Express took people from Winfield across the prairie into the Flint Hills.

It was the railroad that settled the American west. Riding a train across the prairie is still something that pulls at the heartstrings.

The Heartlands Train Club held the ride, and has several planned, to promote train riding and their club.

The train used antique cars and harkened back to the days when passenger rail service was the best way to get around in Kansas.

The group also has a museum in Carona, Ks., which is in the southeast corner of the state.
