This holiday season add a little romance to your Christmas stocking. Books are reasonably priced and can fit into any budget; what better way to add spark to your nights than to read each other scenes from a page-turning romance novel. For romance book suggestions, be sure to visit the Dallas Examiner Romance channel for gift ideas.

Dallas Morning News & National Best-selling author Bettye Griffin kicks off this week of romance. Her book A New Kind of Bliss is one of Dallas Romance Examiner's favorite reads of 2009.

How do you keep romance alive in your relationship?
There's nothing like words, i.e., telling each other how you really feel. It goes deeper than those three little words, like reaffirming your commitment to each other. I'm a just-the-basics girl at heart, and this means more to me than anything. Of course, those pleasant little surprises help, like surprising each other with something favorite - something to eat, a movie on DVD, just something that the other really likes.

If you were planning a romantic getaway, where would it be and why?
My husband is a history buff, and he's got me into it as well, so it wouldn't be one of theose places with only beaches and restaurants. My pick would be Galena, Illinois. It's a historic town (Ulysses S. Grant lived there) that has been preserved and many modern activities have been brought in. Plus it's full of romantic bed-and-breakfast inns that date back to the 19th century (because most romance occurs in the privacy of a hotel room), and it's only about 3 hours away.

What song (title & singer) comes to mind when you think of romance?
Way too many to count, but if I had to pick three, I'd say Ramsey Lewis's Love Serenade (instrumental), Cassandra Wilson's cover of Black Orpheus, and Teddy Pendergrass' You're My Greatest Inspiration. It's not a particular song or singer, but how the singer performs the particular song that means the most to me.

Why do you write romance novels?
Because I, like most people, enjoy a good romance story.
