Harlequin Enterprises will pair Nora Roberts' Silhouette standalone novels "The Art of Deception" (1986) and "Storm Warning" (1984) in "Whispered Promises," the latest in its line of omnibus editions of Roberts' early publications. "Whispered Promises" is due out Sept. 24, 2013.
"The Art of Deception" previously appeared in Harlequin's 2009 omnibus "Worth the Risk." This novel details artist Adam Haines' relationship with Kirby Fairchild, the daughter of a man he believes could be responsible for the disappearance of a famous Rembrandt painting.
Deception is also at the core of "Storm Warning." Photographer Autumn Gallegher finds an unusual collection of guests on a visit to Pine View Inn, her Aunt Tabby's bed-and-breakfast resort located deep in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Unfortunately, Autumn's former lover, Lucas McLean, is among them.
Lucas, a playwright, claims to be there in order to complete his latest work. His producer and the play's starring actress have both accompanied him. Also among the inn's guests is Helen Easterman, a woman whose talent for blackmail soon results in her death.
Many of the inn's occupants have reason to want Helen dead, including Lucas. To help establish his innocence, he and Autumn join forces to find the real culprit. As a dangerous thunderstorm approaches, Autumn realizes that she has become the killer's next target.
"Whispered Promises" follows Harlequin's July 2013 republication of "Forever." Its successor, "Not Without You" to be released Oct. 20, 2013, will contain "Secret Star" (1998), the third book in Roberts' "Stars of Mithra" trilogy, and the standalone romance "The Law is a Lady" (1984).
