Romance in a bottle: Fifty Shades of Grey

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and if your sweetheart is a fan of the runaway bestseller, Fifty Shades of Grey, perhaps pouring wines inspired by that steamy prose is in order.

As it turns out, author E.L. James is a wine lover. The author collaborated with winemakers in California’s North Coast region to craft two wines, both with the message “You are mine” along the bottom label. The 2009 Red Satin is a smooth blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah, aged in new and used French Barrels. Its rich, chocolate and cherries flavor would be a winner on Valentine’s Day. White Silk is a blend of Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. This aromatic wine is a tropical treat of lychee and pear, a combination that would be great with a Valentine’s dinner of Thai or spicy Asian cuisine.

Both wines are priced under $20, leaving plenty of extra cash for flowers. The Fifty Shades of Grey wines are available throughout the metropolitan area, including at Manor House Cellar.
