Rolling Stones top Billboard Hot Tours

The Rolling Stones50 and Counting Tour” may have been brief, but the legendary British Invasion rockers still managed to top this week's Billboards Hot Tour, playing just three venues.

According to an article posted today BillboardBiz.com, the “Satisfaction” hitmakers performed a total of five shows in three venues from Nov. 25-Dec. 15 to gross $38.6 million dollars to earn top grossing tour honours.

“The World’s Greatest Rock n’ Roll Band” played to sellout crowds, performing two shows at London's O2 Arena (Nov 25-29), one show at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center (Dec. 8) and two shows at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. (Dec. 13-15).

The final show was aired as a star-studded live WWE Pay-Per-View special, which featured guest appearances including: Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, The Black Keys, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr. and ex-Stones guitarist Mick Taylor.

Rounding out the Billboard’s Top 5 Hot Tours were: 2. Robbie Williams (7.9 million), 3. Nickleback ($6 million), 4. Jennifer Lopez ($5.9 million) and 5. Coldplay ($5.7).

Following on the heels of note which appeared recently appeared on The Stones’ iPhone app, listing an April 12 Coachella appearance that quickly disappeared, rumours are rampant that the band will headline the Indigo, California festival

Despite denials by Stones officials, both frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards admit that the band has received “quite a few offers” for a full tour in 2013 and think it would be “dopey” to pack it after performing just a handful of shows late last year.

Did you know? The Rolling Stones last major world tour, “A Bigger Bang” (2005-2007) earned $558,255,524 and was the highest grossing tour of all time until finally surpassed by U2’s “360 Tour.”
