The Rolling Stones have received the most nominations at this year’s New Music Express Awards.
According to an article posted last week at NME.com, “The World’s Greatest Rock N’ Roll Band,” who’ve been tremendously active with 50th anniversary projects over the past twelve months, lead the pack with nominations in four categories at the longrunning U.K. awards show.
The “Satisfaction” hitmakers are up for awards in four categories: Best Live Band, Best Book, Music Moment of The Year and Best Music Film.
Commenting on the nominations, frontman Mick Jagger says: "It's very nice to be nominated. When I first heard it was four things, I thought, 'Ooh, blimey! That's very nice!'" And it’s not a journalists-only thing, it's not a coterie of closely-knit people choosing.”
The NME Awards, which honours new bands, cult heroes and rock legends across 22 different categories voted for by music fans, will take place on Wednesday, February 27 at London's Troxy
The Stones wrapped up their 2012 “50 and Counting” tour last month, performing a star-studded 2-½ hour concert to a capacity crowd in Newark, N.J. at the Prudential Center.
Although there are rumours of an appearance at the NME Awards and other 2013 gigs, Stones’ officials remain silent. However, both Jagger and fellow Stone Keith Richards say that the band has received “quite a few offers” for a full tour in 2013 and think it would be “dopey” to pack it after performing just a handful of shows.
Did you know? The Rolling Stones have also been nominated for Best Live Act at the 2013 Brit Awards.
