Rolling Stones documentary soundtrack for 'Charlie is My Darling' wins Grammy

The Rolling Stones documentary soundtrack "Charlie is My Darling Ireland 1965" picked up an award at the 56th annual Grammy Awards held Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

According to results to results posted Jan. 26 at Grammy.com, the legendary British rockers' film soundtrack, culled from The Stones' formative years during their second tour of Ireland in 1965, tied for Best Historical Album with Bill Withers' "The Complete Sussex And Columbia Albums."

The "Satisfaction' hitmakers, who were nominated in three categories last night, have previously earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986 and picked up two in 1995 for Best Rock Album Award ("Voodoo Lounge) and Best Music Video ("Love Is Strong").

Produced by Teri Landi, Andrew Loog Oldham & Steve Rosenthal and engineered by Bob Ludwig, "Ireland 65" includes early Stones original hits such as "Time is on My Side" and "The Last Time," as well as covers of blue classics, including Solomon Burke's "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" and Willie Dixon's "Little Red Rooster."

Originally available only as a CD/vinyl bonus with the pricey 2012 deluxe edition DVD/Blu-ray of "Charlie is My Darling," the soundtrack album will be released in digital format for a limited time on Jan. 21.

The Stones recently announced a new live gig on March 12 at the Shanghai Mercedes-Benz Arena as part of their 14 on Fire World Tour, which kicks off Feb. 21 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Did you know? "Charlie is My Darling" originally premiered at the Mannheim Film Festival in October 1966, but was never released officially in its full length, due to the legal fights between the Rolling Stones and ex- manager Allen Klein.
