The just-published new issue of Rolling Stone features an unpublished interview with John Lennon done three days before his death in 1980. The interview, by Jonathan Cott in the issue dated Dec. 23, according to the magazine's website, is described as a "final" interview, though a radio interview was done by Lennon and Ono on the day of his death.
According to an online summary, in the interview Lennon says his critics are looking for "dead heroes" and he's not interested in being one.
He also said he contemplated touring. "We just might do it. But there will be no smoke bombs, no lipstick, no flashing lights. It just has to be comfy. But we could have a laugh. We're born-again rockers, and we're starting over...There's plenty of time, right? Plenty of time."
The interview is not available openly on the website, though it is in the online archives at extra cost.
Also in the issue is an article by Yoko Ono titled "John's Last Days." Photos in the issue are by Annie Liebovitz, who photographed the iconic photo of a nude Lennon lying with Yoko Ono.
