Rolling Stone greatest guitarists list squeaks Beatles out of the top 10

If "best of" lists are your pet peeve and you're a Beatles fans, you'll have two reasons to gripe about Rolling Stone's latest who's-better-than-who list of the 100 best guitarists of all time

Think George Harrison belongs in the top 10? Rolling Stone didn't. He just missed the top 10, placing at no. 11. And John Lennon placed down in the pack at #55. Paul McCartney isn't anywhere to be found, though bass guitarists seem to have been left off.

The top ten, from 10 to 1, is Pete Townshend, Duane Allman, Eddie Van Halen, Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.

Some of the other placers went to David Gilmour (#14), Les Paul (#18), James Burton (#19), Angus Young (#24), Scotty Moore (#29), Elmore James (#30), Ry Cooder (#31), Prince (#33), (Mick Taylor (#37), Jerry Garcia (#46), Ritchie Blackmore (#50), Joe Walsh (#54), Peter Green (#58), Dickey Betts (#61), Robert Johnson (#71), Robby Krieger (#76), Buddy Holly (#80), Carl Perkins (#88), Bonnie Raitt (#89), Roger McGuinn (#95), Bruce Springsteen (#96) and Lindsay Buckingham (#100).
