Roller Skating in Iowa: Skate Castle in Newton

If you think roller skating or rollerblading is a sport of the past, you may be pleasantly surprised that it’s alive and well in the sleepy town of Newton, Iowa.

Skate Castle, located on the corner of 1st Avenue and Highway 14 in Newton, is in the same location as the original roller rink in town from way back when. This popular teen hangout, which has been a roller rink, indoor soccer field, church, then back to a roller rink, is a fantastic place for kids and families to get active and have fun.

Popular music is played at a perfect volume, which allows you to hear songs clearly, yet still have a conversation on the hardwood skate floor with someone directly next to you without shouting. Games are also played, with special “theme skates” such as couples and backwards skaters at random times. Snack bar complete with food and beverages is available at all times as well.

Skate Castle is open three days a week with admission only $5 per person, for both kids and adults. This price includes roller skate rental, although roller blade rental is an extra $2. Hours are as follows:

Friday 6pm – 10pm

If you are looking for a place for your older kids to hang out alone, or in need of some family fun time, Skate Castle may be your perfect solution.

Enjoy!
