Roller's 2 homers push T-Yanks pass Threshers 9-3

The Tampa Yankees began a three game series against the division rival Clearwater Threshers on Tuesday night at Bright House Networks Field. Lefty Nik Turley (ERA 2.69) took the mound for Tampa as they try to extend their first place lead in the FSL North Division.

The T-Yanks got off to an early start offensively in the 1st after a single by Slade Heathcott. Heathcott then stole 2nd Tyler Austin was at-bat. Kyle Roller however, would help get Tampa on the board when he hit his 16th homerun of the season; Tampa was now up 2-0.

But, Tampa wasn’t done just yet. Ramon Flores would end up reaching on a Threshers throwing error and would later steal when Austin was batting. After a walk by Tyler Austin, Kyle Roller hit his second homerun of the night, this time a three run slam to put the T-Yanks up 5-0.

The homerun hitting wasn’t over for Tampa. Zach Wilson hit a two run homer in the 6th and Slade Heathcott hit a solo homer in the 7th inning.

Turley pitched 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and just 3 runs (including a homerun); striking out 6.
Caleb Cotham (ERA 4.56) then took the hill to relieve Turley in the 7th. Cotham pitched a solid outing of perfect baseball; striking out 4. Rigoberto Arrebato (ERA 4.33) closed out the 9th-no hits allowed.

With a final score of 9-3 the Tampa Yankees took the victory in the first game of this series. Turley advances to (8-3) with this win.

The second game of this series will take place on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm.
