ABC's The Bachelor which is on its 17th season has been a mainstay of guilty pleasure watching for millions of Americans since its beginning in 2002. In an episode scheduled to air Monday, one of the “bachelorettes” is taken to the hospital after attempting to play roller derby.
In the fourth episode of the season, Bachelor Sean Lowe takes eight ladies from his harem provided to him by the network, to a warehouse equipped with a banked track and roller derby gear. The group laces up their skates, and fastens their pads, but as anyone who has played roller derby knows – there is more to the sport that just roller skating to Journey.
The identity of the bachelorette has not been reported, but one of them was taken to the hospital after an unfriendly meeting with the track. Learning to fall properly is the most important lesson you learn in roller derby.
It is great for the sport two-fold. The first is national exposure for roller derby, the second is that the sport is real, and so is gravity.
The Bachelor’s plot revolves around one man who is eligible for love (or 15 minutes of fame) and the 25 ladies who are all battling to be the one chosen - after going through group dates, solo dates and rose ceremonies where the bachelor presents roses to the women he wishes to keep around for another episode.
The Bachelor airs Monday nights at 8 pm on ABC.
