For the first role of the week we shall look at the Wizard, or Witch if you prefer. What is their role in society, what is their role in the party, and what brings them out in the first place.?
When out and about in the general populace, a Wizard or Witch is not too much unlike any other civilian. They may have robes or eccentric clothing, but so do teenagers in the 2010's. The older they get, and boy do they get old, the more they are looked to for sage advice by nobles and paupers alike. Younger, less sage individuals find themselves at an academy or out in the world for adventure. Many hone their skills with creation of wondrous items and potions that will find their way to the forefront of the action. Most other times they will be just plain happy in their homes gaining the knowledge of the universe.
Wizards and Witches out in the adventuring party can take on many roles. One focused on hardening magics and physical enhancement may be just as powerful up front as the warrior in full out armor. The standard wielder of the crafts can usually sit back and blast opponents, or buff allies, while letting the heartier meat shields get in the face of danger. Mages trained in the very control of the essence of life can stand in for other healing types, keeping their allies alive, even when they should be lifeless on the floor.
Just remember that rolling up a magic wielder can be only as exciting as you want it to be.
