Roger Ebert death: 70-year-old film critic loses battle to cancer

Roger Ebert has died. The film critic lost his battle to cancer on April 4, just two days after he announced that his cancer had returned and that he'd be taking a "leave of presence" from work to undergo radiation treatment. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news that the 70-year-old passed away.

As previously reported, Ebert recently found out that his cancer had returned though it was unclear how bad it was and where it was located. Based on reports, many believe that Ebert's cancer was some kind of sarcoma -- it was discovered while his hip was being examined following a fracture.

Roger Ebert's death comes after a decade long battle that just kept haunting him. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Ebert had undergone surgery in February 2002 for thyroid cancer and had another operation 12 months later after cancer was found in his salivary gland."

While Ebert seemed very optimistic in his latest blog post -- and vowed to keep doing what he loved while he took cancer on again -- he couldn't hang on this time. He will always be remembered for his love of movies.
