Former baseball great Roger Clemens has past ties with country star Mindy McCready and has spoken out on McCready's death.
It's "sad news," Clemens said
According to the Detroit News on Feb. 18, Clemens' statement read "she was trying to get peace and direction in her life." He said McCready and her manager/agent were "extremely nice" the "few times" he saw her.
Clemens is now a special instructor with the Houston Astros, and made these statements to the media via a handwritten letter at the team's spring training camp in Kissimmee, Fla.
McCready made headlines and raised a lot of eyebrows when she claimed she had a longtime relationship with the MLB All-Satr back in April 2008. McCready said she met Clemens at a Florida karaoke bar when she was 15 and he was 28 and married.
Clemens denied that they ever had a relationship, but he did acknowledge that he knew McCready..
