In an interview with The New Republic released Monday, 72-year-old Roger Ailes who is the president of Fox News Channel and chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group said that President Barack Obama likes to divide people. In his staunch criticism of the president, Ailes said that President Obama is too busy getting the middle class to hate rich people - and blacks to hate whites. He says: “<President Obama> is busy trying to get everybody to hate each other.”
Ailes made these opinionated statements during an interview in which he was discussing not only President Obama, but primarily Latinos in America and how the GOP is not connecting with them. He questions why Latinos aren't siding with Republicans and comments on immigration as well.
Ailes discusses Fox News Latino which came into being in 2010 as, he claims, a necessary source for Latinos in the nation because it stresses the opportunities for Latinos in the United States. The Fox News Latino web site is mostly in English and targets the Hispanic Americans who have been in the U.S. for a generation or more.
On a political scale, Ailes says that some of the Latinos’ most key values including such topics as abortion and religion are aligned with the Republican Party, but Latinos aren’t getting that message from the mass media. Instead they have been lured to the party that does not promote the values they have been brought up with in their predominantly conservative culture.
Ailes will be running Fox News for at least another four years as his contract is good until 2016.
