Tuesday, Rodney Alcala was sentenced to die for the murder of four women and a child in Orange County, California. Alcala, who appeared on the TV show the Dating Game, represented himself during the trial.
On February 25, Rodney Alcala, 66, was convicted of kidnapping and murdering a 12-year-old child and raping and murdering four women between November 1977 and June 1979 in the Los Angeles area; from Burbank to El Segundo, California. The jury recommended the death sentence. Alcala appeared on the TV show The Dating Game in 1978.
In 1968, Alcala raped an 8-year-old girl and was convicted; he served 34-months in jail for that crime.
Alcala has been linked to dozens of disappearances and murders since the 1970s. Photos that Alcala took were found a few weeks ago in a storage unit in Seattle, Washington. The photos were of possible victims and people he has watched over the past 30 years.
The police suspect that Alcala may have been responsible for at least one death in New York. The photos could have been taken anywhere in the country, including Utah. California officials have asked that people around the country look at the photos and see if they know anything about the people in the photos.
