Rodeo Austin tops the city's list of family attraction (Photos)

For the last 75 years, Rodeo Austin has been delighting families with action-packed entertainment. With championship rodeo events, world class musical acts, mouth-watering BBQ, and good old fashioned carnival style fun, there is something for the whole family.

According to The Austin Business Journal, which released a top-five list of festivals and events, Rodeo Austin was named number two on the list, following only the Austin Trail of Lights, making Rodeo Austin number one in terms of paid attractions. Rodeo Austin is joined on the list by other powerhouse events such as the Pecan Street Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and Formula One weekend held at the Circuit of the Americas Track. Results for this survey were determined based on attendance numbers, ticket sales, and website surveys by Austin locals.

There is still time to enjoy the fun. Although this year’s event began Friday, March 8, it will run through Saturday, March 23rd. Rodeo Austin features the 8th largest junior livestock show in the nation, Austin’s largest carnival, the 5th largest indoor ProRodeo in North America and over 100 live concerts. Although purchasing coins for individual rides can be very costly, discounted bracelets are available and fairgrounds admission is $8 for adults and $5 for kids.

The ProRodeo and Concert Series started on Saturday, March 9th with the Josh Abbott Band and will continue through March 21st with the ProRodeo finals performance and concert with Kevin Fowler. On Friday, March 22nd, Rodeo Austin will host the Xtreme Bulls performance followed by a concert with Kyle Park featuring Cody Johnson. Rodeo Austin’s most anticipated event will take place on Saturday, March 23rd with the Super Shootout featuring North America’s top 10 rodeos going head to head for $50,000.
