Roddick returns to Legg Mason Tennis Classic in DC

April 14, 2010-Fresh off his victory at the ATP tournament in Miami, Andy Roddick has announced he will play in the World Tour 500 event at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park (16th & Kennedy Streets, NW), July 31 through August 8, 2010.

Roddick, world ranked 7th, will be appearing for the ninth time at the Legg Mason Classic which Roddick has won three times.

“We are excited that Andy will once again highlight our tournament player field,” said Jeff Newman, Tournament Director and Senior Vice President of BEST Events.

Off to one of his best starts in 2010, Roddick has roared out of the gate in this season’s first two ATP 1000 tournaments. After being a finalist in Indian Wells, Roodick went on to win in Miami where he defeated Rafael Nadal along the way.

For 17 years, Legg Mason, the Baltimore-based global investment management firm, has been title sponsor. They have hosted the tournament since 1994. The firm is only the sixth title sponsor in tournament history and North America’s longest-term sponsor on the ATP World Tour.

The Legg Mason Tennis Classic debuted last year as one of the ATP World Tour 500 events. Since 2008, the tournament has more than doubled the prize money which is now totaling $1.4 million and nearly tripled the number of points offered for players. The event is one of the top 20 tournaments on the ATP World Tour and was viewed by over 50 million people worldwide in 2009.

Ticket packages and Single Session Tickets for the Legg Mason Tennis Classic go on public sale Saturday, May 1. For more information on the Legg Mason Tennis Classic presented by GEICO, please visit the tournament Website at www.leggmasonclassic.com or call 202.721.9500.
