Rodarte exhibits Black Swan costumes at MOCA

One of the most famous sisters in recent fashion history, Kate and Laura Mulleavy are exhibiting an instillation at MOCA for Rodarte collection.  Currently showing, the exhibit focuses on key pieces from Spring 2010, Fall 2010 and yes, costumes from the award winning, highly nominated, Natalie Portman starring Black Swan film.  While collaborating on seven costumes after an initial introduction from Natalie Portman herself to director Darren Aronofsky, the sister designers definitly helped hype the movie and started a landslide trend in fashion cycles since inception (no pun intended).  The signature play of any ballerina is their tutu, made of 13 layers of the sheer fabric termed "tulle" with not one being alike.  You can see the dramatic influence of the feature film's fashion sense everywhere, in runway and accessories.  While the well esteemed Amy Westcott is the titled/credited costume designer and the only one that would have been recognized by the academy of motion pictures for a costume design nomination, the global fashion community has taken notice of the immense amount of prestige and credit owed to the two sister's creations for the production.  If your here in LA or visiting, make sure to pop by the exhibit.  Runs until 6-5-11.
