According to the Sochi 2014 website, China has had some surprising success in the men's curling tournament at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

China is 4-1 in the Olympic men's curling tournament and are tied for second place with Great Britain.

The Chinese curling team has a Canadian connection because their coach is Marcel Rocque of St. Paul, Alberta, who is a four-time Brier champion and three-time world champion as a lead for Randy Ferbey of Edmonton, Alberta.

However, even though the Chinese are three games above .500, they will have a very difficult schedule throughout the rest of the round robin. China has yet to play Canada and Great Britain and Norway, three teams who are definite medal contenders.

While the Chinese women were expected to contend for a medal because the team led by Bingyu Wang won the 2009 Women's World Curling Championship, it has been the play of Liu Rui that deserves high praise.

China will also be in the international curling spotlight after the Olympic Winter Games because Beijing is hosting the 2014 World Men's Curling Championship from March 29-April 6. This will be the first time the World Men's Curling Championship will have been in Asia.
