A Rockville Centre woman has been arrested on drug charges after she was pulled over for a defective taillight and found with heroin in her car, Nassau County police said.

Kerri Creegan, 33, was pulled over around 3 p.m. Wednesday along Babylon Turnpike in Freeport when an officer spotted her driving a car with a “defective tail light,” police said. During the traffic stop, according to investigators, Creegan was found in possession of a glassine bag that contained heroin.

News 12 Long Island reported Thursday that Creegan is a ninth-grade social studies teacher in the Massapequa School District. A school district spokeswoman would not disclose Creegan’s current employment status or how long she has worked there. She said the district is cooperating with police and said “the matter is under investigation.”

Creegan was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released from police custody Wednesday with an appearance ticket and is due in court later this month.
