The Rockstar Mayhem Festival is the biggest and most well known metal festival in the U.S. The 2011 un-official lineup (the official lineup will be announced January 31), is:
MAIN STAGE
Disturbed, Godsmack, Megadeth, Machine Head, In Flames, Trivium
SECOND STAGE
Suicide Silence, Unearth, Straight Line Stitch, All Shall Perish, Kingdom Of Sorrow
A total of 13 bands will be playing this year, which leaves 2 more bands to be announced. A few thoughts on this line-up...
1. Disturbed, Machine Head, and Suicide Silence played at Mayhem Fest 2010, so this is familiar ground for them. I am a HUGE fan of Machine Head though, so it is always great to see them perform!
2. MEGADETH?!? Never thought that they would play Mayhem Fest! It's cool though, as long as they play "Symphony Of Destruction" (which they, of course, will), and as long as I get to offer Dave Mustaine a beer (which, of course, you know I will!)
3. Kingdom Of Sorrow...hell yeah. Formed by Jamey from Hatebreed and Kirk from Crowbar, this means that we will hear some Hatebreed and Crowbar songs at Mayhem. And KOS is a legit band by themselves, as well.
4. Godsmack...the 18 year old in me is getting ready for the mosh pit! Side story: I saw Godsmack and Staind perform at the Eastern Michigan Convocation center back in 1999. Anyway, Sully Erna was getting wasted on stage the whole time Godsmack performed (much to the anger of the audience, because alcohol wasn't allowed to be sold there!). He ended up forgetting part of the last two songs and inviting a bunch of people on stage to slam some beers with him. Well Sully, looks like I'll have to offer you a beer too!
The official Detroit date is August 6th, at the DTE Energy Music Theater.
