In an unfortunate accident, a Rockmart man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Esom Hill community while biking on the Silver Comet Trail Monday morning.

Emergency Medics arrived on the scene to find that 53-year-old David Perkins was struck by an Infinity Sedan as he crossed the Hardin Road intersection.

A Life-Flight helicopter was called in to air lift Perkins to a hospital for treatment but was cancelled after Emergency crews were unable to stabilize him. Perkins was then rushed to the Polk Medical center where he was pronounced dead.

Perkins, an avid cyclist was biking round trip on the Silver Comet Trail from Rockmart to the Alabama state line.

Witnesses on the scene told Georgia State Troopers that Perkins did not look before crossing directly in front of the oncoming vehicle.

The teen driver of the Infinity that struck Perkins has not been charged at the time of this publication and no charges are expected. Harris was treated and released for glass fragments and emotional distress.
