A Rockmart man was arrested on Tuesday Feb. 19, 2013 by Haralson County deputies on three warrants including one count of sexual battery.
According to police reports, On Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, police were dispatched to a residence in Bremen for an assault call. Upon arrival, the responding officer spoke with the female victim who stated that a male named Joey, who was a friend of her boyfriend knocked on her door. The female stated that her boyfriend is currently incarcerated but she let Joey in because he had been there before.
She stated that Joey pushed her to her bedroom and threw her on the bed and began biting her as he removed her shirt and bra. The female stated that she asked him to stop and he replied; "no".
The female stated that she began crying as she told Joey that it was her sister's birthday and that her sister would be coming by at any minute and according to her, Joey then stopped the assault and left in a small four-door white car.
The victim did not know Joey's last name but she did state that she believed he lived in Rockmart. She gave the responding officer a description of the male suspect along with other information.
EMS was dispatched to the scene due to visible bruising on the victim's neck. She was then transported to Higgins General Hospital emergency room where she was treated and released.
Joseph Richard Passeri, 31, of Rockmart was arrested on Monday by Haralson County Sheriff's Deputy Johnson on warrants charging him with battery, sexual battery and criminal attempt to commit a felony. Passeri remains in custody at the time of this publication. A $20,000 bond has been set.
