Samantha Fish – Black Wind Howlin’ – Out of Kansas City, Samantha Fish can sing and play guitar. “Black Wind Howlin’” is the follow up to her debut album “Runaway”. She won the 2012 Blues Music Award for “Best New Artist Debut”. Mike Zito again produced and played on her new album. The new recording was recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana. It features Samantha’s blazing guitar and vocals, Mike on guitar and vocals, plus his fellow Royal Southern Brotherhood members Yonrico Scott on drums and Charlie Wooton on bass. Watch the videos of two of her songs on Youtube and judge for yourself. The title track and “Sucker Born” are awfully good.

Billy Jones Bluez – I’m a Bluesman His guitar is always crisp and clear, sometimes hypnotic. Call it contemporary blues. He fills songs with layers of special effects and keyboards. There are funky bass lines, drifting keyboards and dance beats. Sometimes the keyboards sound like they were lifted from a 1980s synthesizer pop song. Billy wants to try different things to make blues appeal to today’s music listeners. Every song doesn’t sound like “Sweet Home Chicago”. He mixes traditional blues with rock and soul.
Billy Thompson – Friend Billy combines world class slide guitar, searing licks and soulful vocals with blues, funk, rock, New Orleans and R&B on his sixth release. Guests on the album include Bill Payne on keyboards and bassist Kenny Gadney from Little Feat. Ron Holloway (Warren Haynes & Tedeschi Trucks Band), James Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt & Neville Brothers) and Mike Finnigan (Jimi Hendrix & Joe Cocker) also make guest appearances. All tracks are originals except for “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Guitar driven tunes include “Soldier of Misfortune”, the title track, “Satisfied”, “Got to be Did” and “While the World is Winding Down”.
Brad Wilson – Hands On the Wheel Right out of the gate the title track sets the tone. This California blues rocking guitarist is high octane. Roll down the windows and crank it up to 11 (providing it’s not zero in the Midwest in the middle of winter). The second track “Rocket” continues the guitar pyro-techniques. “Nobody But You” has a classic blues sound. The guitar continues to lead on the next couple of tunes through the instrumental “Crusin’ the Coast”. Then “The Ballad of John Lee’ goes all out boogie. The second half of the CD slows to a more normal blues pace.
Sena Ehrhart – All In Coming out of the Minneapolis area, vocalist Sena grew up in a blues lovin’ household. Her father Ed plays guitar in her band. He also writes or co-writes songs with her. “All In” is her sophomore release. The record was produced by award winning Jim Gaines at Bessie Blues Studios in Tennessee. Jim has also produced recordings for Stevie Ray Vaughan, Luther Allison and Santana. The album feature Sena’s strong vocals and Ed’s outstanding guitar work. Highlights of this album are the opening track “Buried Alive”, “Cold Cold Feeling”, “I Want to Get You Back”. Check out her videos.
