Rockies season starts off slowly

Those of us that have family or other acquaintances outside of the Denver area loves to sell one lie year after year; we always let them believe that Denver is cold and snowy. The winters are brutal and there is no way anyone in their right mind would move here.

We have enough transplants from California and Texas already, we do not need more.

The group that puts together the major league baseball schedule must have family here. While a few teams were not only scheduled to play four games over the opening weekend, many also are playing today.

There will be a few teams that have played five games before the Rockies start their third.

Of course the generous weatherman at 9news helped propagate this lie by calling for a rain/snow mix yesterday.

85 on Saturday, sunny on Sunday morning, snow by first pitch and back to sun and warm weather today. I love Colorado. And that snow-out from yesterday is a warning shot to the rest of the country: you do not want to move here!

What this all means to me, however, is that the baseball season is off to a sloooow start for the Rockies and the team’s fans.

12 teams got the season started on Thursday before Rockies fans packed LoDo on Friday. While the Rockies played their second game Saturday night they now have two days off before they play again on Tuesday. One day off due to the weather and a second due to the schedulers at MLB.

The Royals, Angels, Giants and Dodgers all have played four games already this year. All of them have an off day today, but the Angels and Giants might be finished with their fifth game of the season before the Jhoulys Chacin throws the first pitch on Tuesday night in Denver.

All of this adds up to a really slow start of the 2011 season for Rockies fans. Rockies fans waited on Thursday while nearly half of baseball celebrated the start of the season and now we have to wait two more days for more baseball while baseball is being played, for the second straight day, involving teams not from Colorado.

I waited five months for more Rockies baseball and each day that passes at this point without baseball, especially after it started again, is painful.
