The gathering of travel media journalists with representatives of travel destinations around the world began with a riverside reception and dinner Tuesday night followed by a series of meetings and area tours on Wednesday. A dinner and spectacular fireworks show concluded the day on Wednesday at the Anderson Japanese Gardens.
Travel Media Showcase is kind of a speed dating event for the travel media. Journalists meet with representatives of Convention and Visitors Bureaus from around the world. The journalists are given 15 minutes with each exhibitor before moving on to other exhibitors.
In a speech before journalists Wednesday night, TMS founder Joanne Vero noted that when she came to check out Rockford to see whether it would be suitable for the trade show, she was impress by the amount of undiscovered attractions the city had for visitors.
The travel journalists got a taste of those attractions on Wednesday as they were treated to various tours of the city. Some opted for garden tours, others explored the city’s art and culture scene, some checked out Rockford’s family attractions and others opted for a historical tour of the city.
TMS concludes Thursday. After a day-long series of meetings, the journalists will be treated to a farewell dinner. The site of the 2014 TMS show will be announced at the conclusion of that meeting.
