Rockford IceHogs recall three players from the Toledo Walleye

Mark Bernard, the Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations, announced today that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have recalled three players from the Toledo Walleye, their ECHL affiliate.

Forward Maxime Tanguay, goaltender Alec Richards and defenseman J.C. Sawyer were recalled just hours before the Walleye were set to play their third game of the road trip against the Florida Everblades.  The players are expected to join the IceHogs as they face the Abbotsford Heat tonight.

Maxime Tanguay, who has been part of Toledo's top line with Adam Hobson and Evan Rankin, has recorded five goals and nine assists in 12 games with the Walleye, including two assists in the team's shootout loss to the Everblades last night.

Goaltender Alex Richards has made numerous amazing saves with the Walleye this season, including one last night that was called the "save of the year."  Richards has a 4-1-2 record between the pipes for the Walleye, highlighted by a shut-out win against the Trenton Devils on October 24.

Defenseman J.C. Sawyer has been a clutch player late in the game for the Walleye, recording an impressive three game-winning goals in the first 12 games of the season.  Sawyer has totaled five goals and 11 assists this season with Toledo, plus 14 penalty minutes.

According to the ECHL website, Toledo added goaltender Nate Zervos to the squad as an emergency back-up goaltender this morning in response to losing Richards.  Zervos played with the Florida Everblades from 2007 to early 2009, when he was released on October 26.  The Pittsburgh native also played at the University of Central Florida and for the U.S. Junior National Team at the 2003 Junior Olympics in the Czech Republic.
