Rockets trade rumors regarding an Omer Asik trade shifted on Thursday (Dec. 19). The latest Houston Rockets trade rumors indicate that any deal involving Asik is now dead. A new report from ESPN states that the team simply couldn't find a deal that they liked. Quite a few teams had been linked to this situation and numerous scenarios were getting discussed. In the end, the team didn't even meet its own imposed deadline of pulling the trigger.
The most recent story had the Boston Celtics offering Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee, and a future first-round pick. That wasn't enough to get Houston to agree to a deal, though, possibly because their valuation of Asik was much greater than Boston saw it. Another story had Houston seeking Spencer Hawes and a future first-round pick from the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia didn't go for that deal, presumably because the franchise isn't ready to compete with its current roster.
There is still a chance that something could take place before the NBA deadline in February and that more Houston Rockets trade rumors will pop up around then. Until that point, the front office and coaching staff may simply have to work on mending the relationship with Omer Asik. The team is still on the hook for his $15 million salary next season, so it would really help if he was on board with the plan of the organization moving forward.
