Beer has been brewed, kegs have been filled, and Rocket Republic Brewing Company is ready to officially join the Alabama craft beer community with a launch party at The Nook (3305 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville) on Friday, September 6 at 5 p.m.
Rocket Republic Brewing was conceived out of the humble beginnings of most commercial brewers: with a homebrew kit owner Eric Crigger received from his wife and partner Tatum on Father's Day many years ago. Once he started, Eric fell in love with the art of brewing and studied the craft intensely. He even drafted a business plan for his own brewery back in 2008, but the timing did not come together until the Criggers discussed their dream with John and Lynn Troy, bona fide rocket engineers and owners of Troy 7. The Criggers and Troys decided to partner, and Rocket Republic was born.
The beers from Rocket Republic are currently being contract brewed at Blue Pants Brewery in Madison, and the beer has already started to flow. Rocket Republic will lead with the following three, regular offerings (descriptions provided by brewery info sheet):
- Astronut Brown Ale: For those of us who gravitate toward the nuttier side, this English Style Brown Ale is infused with just the right amount of real toasted almonds used throughout the brewing process. A hint of malty richness and warm, nutty undertones are sure to send us lunatics straight to the moon and back!
- Mach 1 IPA: Our interpretation of an India Pale Ale comes fully loaded in all American style with its sweet tangerine aroma and tangy citrus flavor. An ample amount of rye malt is added to the mash early in the brewing process, igniting a zesty pepper kick to the tongue, which contradicts the sensationally smooth characteristics coming from our cataclysmic combination of Cascade and Centennial hops. Warning: This beer may cause spontaneous combustion of the taste buds!
- Vapor Trail Cream Ale: Aptly named from the milky white lacing left behind on your glass after this beer is long gone, which won't be long once you've tasted your first sip! With a generous amount of honey and biscuit malts, this smooth, sweet, easy-to-drink ale is going to pave the trail in our Flagship Series and will keep you coming back for more. Weighing in at just over 5% ABV, it's the perfect session ale while at the lake or a great way to cap off a hard day's work.
If you missed their sneak peek tasting on Tuesday, you can get your first taste of Rocket Republic offerings at their September 6 launch party at The Nook. This will be the official debut of Astronut Brown Ale and Vapor Trail Cream Ale, and brewery representatives will have some sweet schwag available as well. Rocket Republic beers will also be available in the Blue Pants Brewery taproom (500 Lanier Road, Madison), and you can look for them on draft at craft beer friendly establishments in the Huntsville area around the September 6 launch time. For more up-to-date information on Rocket Republic, give them a "like" on Facebook, visit their website, and keep an eye out here for future event and release details.
I hope that you all join me in extending Rocket Republic a warm welcome to the Alabama craft beer scene next week by raising a glass of their beer in support of their endeavor. I would just like to congratulate all of the folks at Rocket Republic on realizing their dream, and I wish you all the luck in the future. Prost!
