The Rocket City will light up the night this fall when a brand new event, the Neon Vibe 5K, comes to town.
The 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, at University of Alabama Huntsville.
Color runs, or paint runs, have been gaining popularity in the last few years. The Neon Vibe 5K takes the paint concept to a whole new level.
The Neon Vibe 5K is an after-dark, fluorescent glow light fun run that will have participants “glowing crazy with color and dancing all night long,” according to the release. Starting with the 5K, participants will run a traditional, non-competitive 3.1-mile race with multiple “glow zones” set up throughout the course. This is where runners will be blasted with awesome neon colors under UV black lights.
Volunteers will be on hand to cover the crowd with neon powder that fluoresces under UV black lights. After crossing the finish line, racers will have a designated area for dancing and picture taking. The evening ends with a fun “Aftervibe Party,” complete with a DJ.
“You’ll have more glowing neon color on you than your happy levels can handle,” according to one organizer.
With locations across the country, this is the first Neon Vibe 5K for the state of Alabama. Organizers expect more than 3,000 people to be in attendance. The Neon Vibe welcomes all participants regardless of age or ability.
Giving back is an important part of the Neon Vibe team’s philosophy, with many of the races partnering with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Huntsville’s race organizers will be donating to Children’s of Alabama.
Registration cost is $40 until Sept. 5; $45 Sept. 6-Oct. 3; and $50 at packet pick up Oct. 4 through race day Oct. 5. Participants will receive a runner’s packet with registration that includes a “rad” Neon Vibe t-shirt, glow color packet, runner’s bib and other glow goodies.
