Shaw and Cronin organized a concert event called "Volunteers For America" featuring Bad Company, Journey, Survivor, Kansas, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others, and with dual concerts in Dallas and Atlanta they raised over $775,000 for victims of 9/11 and the Port Authority police department in New York City.
Inspired by the success of this effort, Styx has continued to participate in additional causes, ranging from music education for children to helping provide assistance during other disasters that have struck communities in the U.S. like the Boston Marathon bombing.
And tomorrow, December 4, Rock To The Rescue Extends A Hand To Those In Need, whose mission is to build strong, healthy communities through the support of grassroots organizations across the country, will host a concert at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois to raise funds for those affected by the recent tornadoes and storms in central Illinois. Scheduled to perform are STYX, REO Speedwagon, Richard Marx, Ted Nugent, Larry The Cable Guy, Survivor, Head East, and Brushville.
If you've already got tickets for this amazing and important concert event you are in for a treat. If you don't have tickets however, sadly, you're out of luck as the show has completely sold out. But there's still a way to be apart of the event and the music by biding on auction items like signed instruments and memorabilia via Ebay. There's even a football autographed by Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett. Money raised from the ticket sales, auctions and donations will be donated to the Midwest Food Bank, Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Tazwood Community Services, Toys for Tots, and the Washington Rotary Club, with additional charities that may be announced following the event.
