Thursday Dec. 12, 2013 two people were killed about 4:45 p.m. when dirt from a nearby highway came falling along with boulders onto a house. Rockville’s mayor, Dan McGuire, reported to The Salt Lake Tribune "It just flattened out".

The home was completely devastated with destruction. The names of the two individuals is not being released until the family has been notified. The home is located in Rockville off state highway 9, which is the main highway through Zion National Park.

Several emergency responders and agencies were dispatched to the location. Rescue efforts had to be halted until the morning because the conditions were too dangerous to continue.

The last rockslide in the area occurred back in 2002 with zero fatalities.

More information will be released after the family of the victims have been notified and rescue efforts continue under safer conditions.

Questions, comments, or volunteer efforts can be directed to the office of Dan Mcguire.
