Rock slide closes highway 441 again

Since our Nashville area weather is nearly perfect, we've decided to go a different direction today.

Yet another rockslide has closed Highway 441 between Newfound Gap and Cherokee, NC approximately six miles north of the North Carolina town. The slide occurred on Sunday night and crews were onsite early this morning to begin the cleanup.

According to Great Smoky Mountain National Park managers, the slide appears to be around 20 truckloads in size.

Park spokesman Bob Miller says there were no injuries or property damage.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel is reporting the slide has been cleared and the road has reopened.

    That was a pretty large landslide of rocks that fell. Glad to hear that no people hurt or property was damaged. This could have been a disaster if it occurred during rush hour instead of so late in the evening. Good report.
