Tonight, Jan. 18, San Jose will rock with all the hues of the rainbow; from the dark crimsons to sweet pastels. A pair of shows will bring out the color palette from SJs rock 'n' roll bounty.
At The Caravan, starting at 8pm, a trio of doom rock acts fill the stage. Headliners, Granted Earth, bring their sound over from The Monterey Bay, specializing in sludge not unlike post-rock icons, The Melvins or Mastodon. The evening's supporting slots will be occupied by San Jose's own stoner-rock trio, Dark Earth, with a metallic, psychedelic lacing laid down by Concord's Absolem. This is free, 21+ show.
Also . . .
For an all-ages show, SLG Art Boutiki (577 S. Market Street) winds down its tenancy at the venue at 7:30 with headliners, Curious Quail, as Mike Shirley-Donnely and company brings the house down with heavy, emotional alt-rock. Also, self-described afro-indie-yacht-rock foursome, Guy Fox, will come down from SF to tout their sunny, groovy style. Infusing a post-punk flair the night will be Bears! Bears! Bears!, as well as the soulful sounds of Cupertino's Sweet HayaH. Price is $10.
Friday night has something for everyone, so go out and support your local/regional bands in their natural settings.
