"Much has been written about the Sex Pistols. Much of it has either been sensationalism or journalistic psychobabble. The rest has been mere spite. This book is as close to the truth as one can get ... This means contradictions and insults have not been edited, and neither have the compliments, if any. I have no time for lies or fantasy, and neither should you. Enjoy or die," was what Johnny Rotten wrote when his autobiography No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs was released in 1993.
However, the release of his latest book is quite a turnaround. Mr Rotten's Scrapbook is comprised of rare, private photographs showing a tender, milder side of the former frontman's more than controversial persona.
"I think this is a much more accurate portrayal of my life instead of my [1993] autobiography Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs," Rotten tells SPIN magazine. "I forgot about emphasizing the personality and this makes up for that. There's no nastiness, no bitchiness. I tell it quite genuinely.
The book is also bundled with a 2009 LP of live recordings from Rotten's reunion tour with his post-Pistols band Public Image Ltd.
Only 750 copies of the book will be pressed, 100 of which will contain golden tickets for the lucky purchasee to have a one-on-one chat with the man himself. The price tag for this limited edition piece of memorabilia? A cool $710....
