Denver is going Rock 'n' Roll next year. The Competitor Group (CGI) recently announced that the Denver Marathon will become part of the Rock 'n' Roll series in 2010. Currently, the Rock 'n Roll series includes marathons in 12 cities including Las Vegas, Chicago, Seattle and San Antonio. Beginning next fall, Denver will join in the fun. The race will include both full and half marathons as well as a relay. The Denver race will use the current Denver Marathon course and will continue to be a Boston qualifier.
The Rock 'n' Roll series of races, which began in San Diego in 1998, has become famous nationwide for its entertainment and party atmosphere. Bands play for runners every mile, peppy cheerleaders encourage runners at every turn and there is always a post-race concert featuring a headlining act such as Los Lonely Boys, Smash Mouth and the Gin Blossoms. If you run in the Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll race this year you can even tie the knot at Paris Las Vegas while you run along the course. Rock 'n' Roll provides something for everyone!
"We are very excited that the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is coming to Denver," said Richard Scharf, President of VISIT DENVER, the Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Denver is the perfect city to be hosting the Marathon, with 300 days of sunshine, a great love of sports and outdoor activities, world-class cultural offerings, and natural beauty from the Rocky Mountains' backdrop. We look forward to welcoming thousands of runners from around the world next fall."
The Rock 'n' Roll marathon is a good race for first marathon and half marathon runners because it provides excellent support at the numerous aid stations, as well has constant entertainment and distraction to keep runners feeling strong and motivated. Typically, water is served at the start and finish lines. There are 7 aid stations along the half marathon course with water as well as Cytomax sport's drink. Gu energy gels, in multiple flavors, are provided at about the half way point. The full marathon has 18 aid stations with similar offerings as the half marathon.
In June 2009, Seattle became the 12th city to participate in the Rock 'n' Roll series. The race was wildly successful and sold out months prior to the event.
