On Oct. 27 it was announced that American rock musician Lou Reed has passed away at the age of 71. The cause of death has yet to be announced, but earlier this year he did have a liver transplant. Reed was born on March 2, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and he passed away on Oct. 27.
Reed was the lead vocalist for the American rock band The Velvet Underground from 1965 to 1970 and again during the band's reunion in 1992. In 1996 The Velvet Underground reunited once again when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Reed's most recent studio album was a collaboration between him and Metallica entitled "Lulu". That album was released on Nov. 1, 2011 via Warner Bros. Records/Vertigo. The last solo album Reed released was "Hudson River Wind Meditations" in 2007. As a solo artist Lou Reed released twelve studio albums with his first being self-titled in 1972. He also collaborated with such artists as Metric, Gorillaz, The Killers, Vince Gill, and Simple Minds.
