"John Lennon: The New York Years," a featured exhibit at the Rock Hall of Fame's New York Annex, will end its run Jan. 3 the day the Annex will close for good. The closure was announced this week
In addition to "John Lennon: The New York Years," the New York Rock Hall Annex has featured displays with objects associated with Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson.
However, a press release issued by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame says the Rock Hall is considering putting some of the artifacts on tour. According to the release, the hall is "exploring opportunities for a tour that would bring exclusive artifacts to music fans and rock enthusiasts around the world."
The Lennon exhibit opened in May. Ralph Applebaum Associates recently won two awards -- the 2009 Design Annual Communication Arts Environmental Graphics Award and a Silver Award in Environmental Graphic Design -- from the 39th Annual Creativity Awards for their work on the Lennon exhibit.

Wow, I made it just in time! I'm going tomorrow.
The museum is way out of the way for the average tourist, it's not good value for money, the space is too small. I was really disappointed by the Lennon exhibit. A two day pass at the main museum in Cleveland costs the same as a one day admission to the NYC annex. Not surprised by this at all, it was not good value for money and effort to get there.
Wow, that's sad. I'm so glad I was in NYC visiting friends at the end of October and went then. It really was a very cool place. I hope there is a tour so that others can see the artifacts too.
This is really sad news. I am glad we got to see the Annex and the Lennon exhibit. I loved it. The location is hardly out of the way - within easy walking distance of Washington Square, Union Square, Greenwich Village, Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown. The Annex is smaller than main museum but way more manageable. I loved the headsets that played music keyed to the exhibits. I am not a huge fan or Bruce Springsteen but when the music switched to Born to Run and I rounded the corner and saw his convertible it took my breath away.
If anyone would like passes to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's New York Annex (regular price $28.85 + $3.00 service = $31.85),
Liverpool Productions has them for $15.00 each (msut be used before the Annex closes January 3rd). Contact (203) 795-4737 or LiverpoolTours@aol.com.
The museum isn't hard to get to if you are making it your sole destination, but for the average tourist it is way out of the way. There is one billboard in Times Square advertising the Lennon exhibit, but with all that NYC has to offer, to have to go all the way downtown to get there is a pain in the butt.
I'm a diehard Beatles and JPGR solo fan and I did not like the Lennon exhibit at all.
Well, I really liked it--yeah, it's small, and out of the way. But it's not too hard to get to, provided you know how to use the subway system. Although I will concede that it was overpriced.
