If you're a rock music fan looking for a change of scenery this weekend, check out Baltimore's Shindig Festival. Held at Carroll Park in Historic Pigtown (which some baseball fans may recognize as the birthplace of Babe Ruth), the fest will take place this coming Saturday, September 14th.
The show features two main stages with no overlapping sets, which means you don't have to miss a thing. The Babe Stage will feature legendary headliner Joan Jett and The Blackhearts along with New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem and Reverend Horton Heat, while badass Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys finishes the evening out on the Boxer Stage, which will also feature Clutch and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The set times are as follows:
1:00-1:30 Victims of Experience
2:00-2:30 The Glenmont Popes
3:00-3:45 Jimmie's Chicken Shack
4:30-5:30 Reverend Horton Heat
6:30-7:30 The Gaslight Anthem
8:30-9:45 Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
1:30-2:00 Bad Seed Rising
2:30-3:00 Larry and His Flask
3:45-4:30 The Hold Steady
5:30-6:30 Mighty Mighty Bosstones
9:45-11:00 Dropkick Murphys
There will also include a vending village where you can find the Ripley's "Believe it or Not" Side Stage, featuring special talents and oddities all day and evening. And of course there will be a nice selection of Baltimore food and drink available to the masses.
Tickets are $53.50, while parking passes are $15. Both can be purchased on Shindig's site. http://www.theshindigbaltimore.com/tickets/ or at The Sound Garden, located in Fells Point. The gates are set to open at noon. For New Yorkers planning to stay the weekend, the festival site offers lodging suggestions on their info page. As a frequent roadtripper, I also recommend checking out Tripadvisor.com for customer reviews of additional hotel options in the area.
