On Saturday May 3, Furkids, a no-kill shelter in metro Atlanta that boasts the largest cage-free space in the southeast, will be celebrating 12 years of saving the lives of homeless pets in metro Atlanta. The 12th Anniversary celebration will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Thalia Carlos Hellenic Community Center located at 2500 Clairmont Road, NE in Atlanta.

The event will include a buffet dinner with open bar, live music and dancing featuring The League of Decency and a silent auction. Tickets are available on line for $75. Click here to purchase tickets and for more information.

Some of the items that will be available at the silent auction include gift cards to local restaurants (Houston’s, J. Alexander, Tin Lizzy, Blue Ribbon Grill, The Flying Biscuit, Mellow Mushroom, New York Prime, Agave and Sage Woodfire Tavern), tickets to local attractions and events ( Medieval Times, The High Museum, The Children’s Museum, Braves games and The Punchline Comedy Club), handcrafted designer jewelry, a Big Green Egg grill, a Keurig coffee maker and original artwork. There will also be a wide variety of gift baskets that are perfect for Mothers’ Day gift giving.

Millard Choate, President of Choate Construction Company, will be the special honoree for the Furkids 12th birthday celebration. Last year, Mr. Choate enabled the renovation of the 34-year-old dog shelter with a $100,000 challenge grant to Furkids which resulted in the raising of matching funds. Choate Construction Company and its suppliers completed work on the facility this spring.

The following information is from the Furkids Press Release on the anniversary celebration:

‘Millard Choate’s contribution, along with the contributions of Choate Construction suppliers and Furkids supporters, are an answered prayer for all of us who struggled with how to upgrade our dog shelter and better serve our animals, families and volunteers,’ said Samantha Shelton, Furkids founder and executive director. ‘Our renovated shelter is beautiful beyond our dreams. We are sincerely touched by the depth of this gift and are so pleased to honor him on our 12th birthday.’

About Furkids (from a previous (March 26, 2013) Press Release)

Furkids is a 501(c)3, charitable, non-profit organization that operates the largest cage-free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast for rescued cats and a no-kill shelter for dogs where they can experience the best care in a loving environment until they are adopted. The Furkids mission is to help end pet overpopulation in Georgia through sterilization, high-quality adoption and by providing valuable spay/neuter services and pet care education to people in the community. Each year, Furkids rescues, shelters, sterilizes, rehabilitates, and places hundreds of cats and dogs in permanent, loving homes.

Furkids, which cares for more animals on a daily basis than any other local organization, including the Atlanta Humane Society, has rescued and altered more than 8,000 animals since its founding in 2002. Approximately 600 cats and dogs are in the Furkids program today, in the Furkids shelters, 13 PetSmart and PETCO adoption centers and foster homes.
