Most children love little toys that make noise. So this is a project that will give them a rattle that makes noise. It is great as a maraca and can be decorative at the same time. This can be done in many different styles and shapes. It is fun and kids can be very creative with this.
Materials:
• Ribbon Spool
• Dowel/Pencil
• Foamie/Ribbons
• Puff Paint
• Craft Knife/Scissors
• Hot Glue
• Dried Beans/Flax Seeds
• Paint
• Google eyes
The picture shows you the bumble bee rattle, which is what will be described here. You can do this in many different ways; the gist is the same in all of these.
Step 1: You will want to clean off the Ribbon Spool, making sure that it is free of debris. Then you will want to use the spool to draw circles on the foamie sheet. You will need two circles so that you can close off the spool area.
Step 2: After you have the circles cut, you will want to cut a few strips of black that will make your stripes for the bee. Glue these onto the circles and then trim them to curve with the circle. Once done you will glue down the back to one side of the spool. Make sure you cut a head and tail for the front of your bee.
Step 3: Place your beans/seeds into the open area. Glue down the top of your bee. If you want to keep it this way you can, but adding a stick gives the kids a way to make the bee fly. So take your scissors and dig a hole into the spool, be careful because too much pressure on the spool will break it. Once you have a hole big enough hot glue your dowel into the bee. Paint the stick the color of your choice. With the stick in place you will want to add some black foamie strips to the sides to finish off the body of the bee.
Step 4: For the bee you will want wings; in the picture you see that they are clear. Using a paper protector slip worked great to make the wings. To finish this bee off you will want to add a bit of ribbon and some eyes.
