Comic Book Conventions run all thru out the year all across the country. Fall is the season that they all seem to hit the North East. Baltimore, Boston, and New York all happen in late “summer” early fall.
These conventions like the sales of comic books themselves are growing inside and appealing to larger audiences. Some in part to a rise in popularity for comic book characters and partly in the broadening genres and interests these conventions are taking on.
Like some of the bigger conventions Rochester NY gets one in the fall too! This year’s convention is taking place September 20-22 at the Main St. Armory and is going to have some pretty cool guests and events.
Some of the guest are, Chris Doohan who was in many of the Star Trek Movies including the latest “Into the Darkness”, Noel Gugliemi who has quite the resume with The Walking Dead, The Dark Knight Rises, Fast and the Furious and many more.
Comic Book Guests include Stephen Skeates who worked on some classic Aquaman Tales, Mark McKenna who has done work with DC and Marvel and some great independent work, and 1st Print Comics of 1548 Buffalo Road Rochester NY 14624 has sponsored Joe Jusko in one of his only appearances all year, he did work on Marvel Masterpieces, Vampirella, and many other works for publishers such as DC, Crusade, Innovation, Harris, Wildstorm, Top Cow, and many more.
Some of the events include some gaming tournaments in today’s top RPG card games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic. There is also going to be video game tournaments for popular games including Super Smash Brother’s, the Original Smash Brother’s, Soul Caliber, Tekken, and Marvel Vs. Cap Com. The Con will also host a number of video game terminals to be used while the Tournaments are not going on.
Along with the guests and activities collectors will appreciate the large number of vendors attending, making finding that missing issue just a little easier. There will be an artist alley to purchase sketches and meet some talented artists.
The guest list is much larger than what I listed here and can be found in its entirety at http://rochesterscifianimecon.com/ you can also check out the RocCon Facebook page. Of course you will be able to hear my run down of the con on the 2nd Prints Podcast which has been nominated for Best Of in Rochester (vote here).
