Rochelle Vayo Adkinson talks about WGN’s ‘Bring It Home’

Bring It Home isn’t about knocking down walls. Rather, as host Rochelle Vayo Adkinson pointed out in an interview this morning, the new home design show is all about, well, bringing high-fashion designs home at an affordable price.

Anyone can do the projects she highlights every week, whether its redecorating a master bedroom, or creating a man cave. Viewers don’t even need to own a home; the beauty of Bring it Home is that it features design projects even renters can do.

The show is also unique in that it features places that Chicagoans and Chicago surbaninites can shop at. Rochelle might visit a few standard places--like Pier One Imports in last week’s episode--but she also hunts down hidden gems, too, with help from Facebook fans, recommendations from friends, and suggestions from Chicago Home & Garden’s editor Jan Parr. No matter what place she highlights, she strives to find deals. After all, that’s part of the point of this show.

Bring It Home is all about taking high-fashion designs and recreating them at a more affordable price. “It’s really about creating the same look on your own terms,” Rochelle said.

Bring It Home gains its inspiration in a bunch of different places. Viewers can submit a room by emailing Rochelle at bringithome@chicagomag.com or visiting Bring It Home’s Facebook page. According to Rochelle, she also finds a lot of gems in Chicago Home & Garden magazine, which is not only WGN’s Bring It Home partner, but also the initial inspiration for the TV show.

After finding inspiration and gaining a few words of wisdom from a particular episode’s designer, Rochelle is on the hunt. She takes a couple days to do research and scout out a couple locations with the help of her assistant. Once the places are found, filming is scheduled, and she’s out on the town, looking for pieces that fit the look she’s trying to emulate for viewers throughout Chicagoland.

There might not be a before/after segment on this home design show but that just makes it all the more unique.
As Rochelle says, you won't find any other TV show so focused on home design in Chicago.

Bring It Home’s first season consists of 20 episodes and will feature all sorts of rooms, including man caves and outdoor spaces.

The show airs Sunday on Chicago’s WGN station at 11am. Repeat episodes then air on CLTV.
