RoC Modifieds ready for 20th season

The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013 with 10 confirmed dates and a possible 11th on the schedule.

The Tour formed in 1994 as the New York State Modified Championship, started by then-Tioga Speedway Promoter Andrew Harpell, Apple Valley Speedway (now Spencer Speedway) promoter Todd Hartman and the late Alex Friesen, owner/operator of Lancaster Speedway (now Elegant Builders Raceway Park). Ransomville’s Charlie Rudolph edged out Jan Leaty for the first RoC Modified Championship. Matt Hirschman was the Tour’s 2012 champion.

Confirmed races on the schedule so far include:

  • Sunday, May 5th – Chemung Speedrome
  • Sunday, May 19th – Shangri La-II Speedway
  • Saturday, May 25th – Oswego Speedway
  • Friday, June 7th – Spencer Speedway
  • Saturday, July 6th – Holland Speedway
  • Saturday, July 20th – Oswego Speedway RoC 200
  • Sunday, July 28th – Shangri-La II Speedway
  • Friday, August 30th – Oswego Speedway
  • Sunday, September 22nd – Elegant Builders Raceway Park
  • Sunday, September 29th – Shangri-La II Speedway

A second date at Elegant Builders Raceway Park (formerly Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster) is expected to be added at a later date, and other venues and additional dates are still a possibility, according to the RoC website, www.raceofchampions.net.
